Arc - Process Editor - add "auto-save" feature
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
It's related to a problem, but not an Arc one. It's the Windows one of "Your PC Ran into a Problem and Needs to Restart".
Normally I'm pretty assiduous about hitting the save command regularly when I'm writing a TI, regardless of whether I'm finished. (Side-annoyance; if there is a syntax error it will pop up an error message and I have to manually confirm that I want to save. If you have the search dialog open, that's often hidden behind that. As I'll note below it would be nice to have an OPTION of "When I tell you to save, YOU. JUST. SAVE.") Last night, however, it appears that I didn't have a completed save for over an hour.
Then Windows "ran into a problem" just on finishing time. Sure enough, this morning, all that work? Gooooonnnnne.
Describe the solution you'd like
First, an option to ignore syntax errors on save. (In an ideal world this should be process by process, but I'd be happy with a global setting.) Sure, you'd need to have some kind of visual cue that the last save is in an error state, but when I'm part way through writing a TI that I haven't finished yet? Yes, there will be syntax errors. And I. Don't. Care.
Second, the big one... an OPTION to set autosave every x minutes. If this were to be implemented, it would need to ignore syntax errors because there is no way that the autosave would trigger when you have neatly finished your codeblocks. And if the autosave forced you to manually confirm the save, it would rather defeat the purpose of the exercise.
I would request these as OPTIONS because there may be people who never want to save a process in an incomplete state. Personally I care more about losing work.
Describe alternatives you've considered
I can't think of any other than this feature being added.
