Search does not respect wait time or character limit

Describe the bug

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior: The search setting are as follow
- Go to rule editor for a cube.
- Click on the search and start with '.
The search will begin at ' and further data entry in the search field will stop. If the rule is long enough the browser will wait.
The same behaviour is observed in the object search in the sidebar.
Expected behavior
The search will wait for data entry to finish before searching.
** Enhancement **
Replace the auto search functionality with a button to start the search or redo the search. Keyboard ENTER will also start the search.
