Value formatting on Trace Calculation window
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I find it difficult to read/validate large numbers in the Trace Calculation screen as they do not use the formatting applied to the cell value they are displaying. For example, 1759.0 this isn't as much of an issue, whereas 179422519000.1 it becomes more difficult. Is that 179 billion, 17.9 billion etc. It's especially difficult when there are several values evaluated as part of a rule and you want to compare them to a cube view.
Describe the solution you'd like
It would be clearer for the Trace Calculation window to display values formatted according to the cell format(s) that it refers to. That would solve the immediate usability issue.
Probably asking for too much here, but it would be EVEN clearer if the values returned in a trace calc were also displayed alongside the part of the rule that they related to, e.g.
If Statement
Condition 1 | 1
Condition 2 | TRUE
Rule Part A |
Cell Reference | 179,422,519,000.10
Attribute Reference | P03 YTG
+
Rule Part B |
Cell Reference | 68,252,416,000.00
Attribute Reference | P03 YTD
Might just be me, but I've always found it confusing to work out which evaluated values related to which part of the rule as they can have the same description against them. I'm even having to hash out different parts of the rule to evaluate just that part on its own.
It looks as though Workbench is (and I believe Architect did as well) applying the cell formatting on the trace, and partially describes the line to give you the year it relates to as well which is useful (even though it only does that on one of the lines weirdly).
Describe alternatives you've considered
Copying the values into excel and formatting them so I see what the value is.
Hashing out parts of the rule to see which values are returned for specific parts of a rule.
